The First Atlanta Art Fair (AAF) is a new art fair that took place at Pullman Yards in Atlanta, Georgia. The fair was organized by New York's Art Market Productions (AMP) and Intersect Art and Design, and was led by Kelly Freeman, the fair's director, and Nato Thompson, the artistic director.

Objective of the Fair

The objective of the fair is to provide a platform for regional artists and galleries to showcase their work, and to create a unique microcosm of the American South. The fair aims to be site-specific, focusing on the love of Atlanta and its art scene.

Features of the Fair

The fair features a diverse range of artworks, including paintings, photographs, and installations. The fair also includes public projects, such as a fabric mobile by Jeffrey Gibson. The price points of the artworks are relatively modest, with most pieces priced below five digits.

Participating Galleries and Artists

Some of the participating galleries and artists include:

  • Residency Art Gallery, Inglewood
  • Jackson Fine Art, Atlanta
  • Sandler Hudson, Atlanta
  • M. Contemporary Art, Detroit
  • The Object Space
  • Jessica Blinkhorn at the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design

Reception of the Fair

The fair was well-received, with over 3,500 people visiting on the opening day. The fair was praised for its unique and eclectic selection of artworks, and for providing a platform for regional artists and galleries to showcase their work.

Overlap with Atlanta Art Week

The fair overlaps with the third edition of Atlanta Art Week (AAW), which is a scattered showcase of galleries and institutions in Atlanta. While there was no formal collaboration between AAW and AAF, three leading Atlanta enterprises (Jackson Fine Art, Spalding Nix, and Whitespace) have stands at both events.
